A new custom mantel sets the tone for the room. and the V-groove wainscotting comes right up to the mantel.
V-groove wainscoting is similar to bead-board style, but a simple bevel defines the edge.
The two piece crown moulding and three piece door casings set off
nicely against the contrasting walls.
The wainscoting from the living room follows through to the
kitchen counter seating area.
A beadboard backsplash adds some character to the kitchen.
My client had purchased a newly built beach house in a wonderful
area of the Jersey shore and needed some character for the interior
Although the proportions and general layout of the house were
fine, the trim and other details were of the "builders special"
variety. Instead of offering a relaxing and warm environment, the
details screamed: cheesy!
The kitchen and living room in these pictures were made over into
something more appropriate and enduring. The entire space received a
wide v-groove wainscoting treatment, tying in with a new custom
mantel. New window and door casings, plus a unique two piece crown
system, replaced what was cheap and sterile trim before.
A beadboard kitchen backsplash was installed, and poorly
finished kitchen cabinet trim was replaced. The upper walls were
painted with Benjamin Moore's Saybrook Sage; a creamy faded green
perfect for a beach atmosphere. The trim was painted Benjamin
Moore's Vanilla Milkshake.
