Whitehouse Classic Kitchen

After the renovation the marble backsplash, distressed white cabinets with inset doors and classic trim made a convincing case for enduring style.

The starting point was a tired kitchen with dated 1980s cabinets and a vinyl floor.

The new cabinets were designed and made in the shop at Enduring Charm, which allowed for ultimate dimensional flexibility and the creation of genuine details not found on factory cabinets.

One unique feature is the incorporation of shelving with handmade baskets, which are used to store commonly accessed items like teabags and morning vitamins.  The exhaust fan over the range is concealed by a well proportioned wood enclosure.

The countertops are soapstone from Virginia and the stainless sink is undermounted.  Note the base moulding creating feet over the toe kick area as well as the beaded frame inset doors.  The distressed white finish allows some black to come through on worn edges.

The floor to ceiling pantry contains soft-close pull out drawers so that locating an item is easy and quick.

A pull out spice rack and another pull out cabinet to store cookie sheets and cooking wrap is part of the design.

A built in bench seating area was modeled after the lines of an antique chair, and the farm table was custom made by Enduring Charm with hand-turned legs and locally harvested wood.

The pull out sink faucet is placed off center to give more room for soaps and to allow better views out the window.

This kitchen was overdue for a renovation, and the new design was modeled after farm style kitchens of the past.  The idea was to use classic features and finishes with all the conveniences of modern kitchens.  So, there is a marble backsplash, vintage pulls, dovetailed drawers and inset doors, but also soft-close hidden hardware and a pull out spice rack.
